In this month’s newsletter, I speak with Lara du Plessis, an Advanced Life Alignment Practitioner and Vortex Energetics Facilitator based in Cape Town. With a background in corporate and marketing, Lara has learned to balance the analytical and intuitive aspects of life — integrating the practical demands of the world with the deeper understanding of energy centers such as the chakra system. In this conversation, she shares her insights on how these energy systems influence our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Maggie: Lara, when you speak about the chakra system, how do you explain its relevance to someone completely new to the concept?
I like to describe the chakra system as an inner map of our energy – a way to understand how life force moves through us and influences every part of our being. The word chakra means “wheel” or “lotus” in Sanskrit and has been used in ancient Indian texts for over 2700 years.
Most people today recognize seven primary chakras: Energy centers that run along the spine, each linked to specific physical organs and emotional themes:
1. Root Chakra (Muladhara) – at the base of the spine, represents stability and grounding.
2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) – in the lower abdomen, relates to creativity and emotional balance.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) – in the upper abdomen, governs confidence and personal power.
4. Heart Chakra (Anahata) – in the center of the chest, represents love and compassion.
5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) – at the throat, supports communication and self-expression.
6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) – between the eyebrows, relates to intuition and insight.
7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) – at the top of the head, connects us to higher consciousness.

Each chakra is like a transformer between the physical and the subtle body. When energy flows freely, we feel vibrant and balanced. When it’s blocked, we may experience stress, fatigue, or emotional tension.
I often compare the chakra system to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, which maps human development from survival to self-actualization. The stages correspond beautifully with the chakras. For example, the Crown Chakra aligns with Maslow’s concept of self-actualization or enlightenment.
It’s also important to note that there are energy centers extending beyond the physical body. The higher chakras, often referred to as the 8th to 12th chakras, are situated around and above the head. They are gateways to expanded states of consciousness and deeper connection with the soul essence. These higher chakras open awareness to the greater cosmos, our star origins, universal love, and spiritual evolution, reminding us that we are part of a vast and interconnected whole. It’s fascinating.

Fascinating indeed! Tell me, how does the Chakra system influence our physical health and emotional balance? And how does Life Alignment come into play?
Our chakras act as translators between the body and the soul. When energy flows harmoniously, it supports healthy organ function and emotional equilibrium. But when life challenges or trauma create energetic blockages, the body mirrors that imbalance through discomfort or illness.
In Life Alignment, once we identify imbalances, we use gentle techniques, intention, and the quantum infused Vortex Technology to restore flow and harmony. Additionally, we work with biofeedback through muscle testing, a pendulum or dowsing rods. Thus, the body’s intelligence leads the process and not our mind. it knows exactly what needs to be brought back into balance – much better than our mind could tell us.
The term Kundalini energy often appears in connection with the chakra system. What is the relationship between the two?
Kundalini is the dormant spiritual energy coiled at the base of the spine, in the Root Chakra. When awakened – through meditation, breathwork, energy healing and deep soul work, it rises through each chakra, activating them in turn and leading to transformation and expanded awareness.

As it moves:
– Through the Root Chakra, we feel grounded and safe.
– At the Sacral, creativity awakens and emotions deepen.
– In the Solar Plexus, self-confidence and willpower strengthen.
– Through the Heart, love and compassion expand.
– At the Throat, we express ourselves authentically.
– In the Third Eye, intuition and clarity sharpen.
– At the Crown, we experience oneness with universal consciousness.
The Kundalini journey symbolises our spiritual evolution: Each stage bringing growth, awareness, and the release of old patterns. It is not merely a physical phenomenon, but a profound spiritual process that awakens our true potential. This very principle lies also at the heart of Life Alignment.
The Life Alignment technique works with energy centers beyond the seven chakras, known as Vortex Centers. Could you explain more about them?
The Vortex Centers in Life Alignment are additional points within the energy field that, like the chakras, can be activated and carry higher frequencies. They are located in various parts of the body beyond the central midline where the main chakras reside. For example, inside the elbows, knees, or wrists. In Life Alignment, these centers are used to “spin” Vortex Cards, facilitating the release or reception of energy. The process is highly individual and technical, differing from one session to another. Similar concepts can also be found in certain advanced yoga practices.

The chakras deal mainly with human experience: survival, emotion, love, intuition, expression, and spiritual connection. The Vortex Centers, however, reach into subtler, multidimensional layers of consciousness. They connect us with our soul blueprint, our purpose, and the universal field of intelligence. As humanity evolves, these centers are becoming more active in our bodies, helping us integrate more light, coherence, and awareness. They assist in transmuting energy not just for us, but also for collective healing.
Can you explain this a bit deeper, Lara: How do the Vortex Cards support this work?
The Vortex “Cards” are energetic tools that hold specific magnetic frequencies. They work with the body’s energy field to help open, balance, and realign the chakras, Vortex Centers but also in general the energy flow of a certain body part or organ. In short: It’s all about raising the frequency.
During a Life Alignment session, we are not only spinning specific Vortex Cards but we also may place cards on the body or in certain sacred geometric patterns such as Metatron Cube or “Tree of Life” grids to support energy flow. They act like tuning forks – helping the body remember its natural state of harmony.
Combined with the body’s guidance and the practitioner’s intuition, the cards bring profound shifts on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. Some processes in Life Alignment specifically focus on particular chakras, using Vortex Cards to enhance and stabilise their energy. In fact, often, when the cards are used, the entire chakra system realigns, even if that wasn’t the original focus of the session. It’s a gentle yet powerful way to bring the whole system into coherence.

That describes it well, thank you! How do you see this work contributing to deeper transformation – personally and spiritually?
The chakra system, in my view, is one of the most profound gateways to self-awareness. When we work with it through Life Alignment, unconscious patterns begin to surface — old fears, beliefs, and emotions that have shaped our reality. Once they become conscious, they can be understood, felt, and released.
Life Alignment reveals these patterns in a safe, structured way, allowing transformation to happen through awareness rather than force. As the chakras realign and life force flows freely, people naturally feel more balanced, grounded, and authentic.
On a spiritual level, this alignment expands our capacity to receive light, balance, and abundance. Many describe it as a renewed sense of connection with oneself, others, and life itself — where healing becomes less about fixing and more about remembering who we truly are.
So true. Do you have any tips or practices for working with the chakras in daily life — especially in moments when we don’t have access to Vortex technology or a full Life Alignment Balance?
Sure. Working with the chakras is a beautiful way to stay connected to our inner truth, even in challenging moments. It’s an intimate form of communication with the inner realm.
Use the chakra system as a way to tune into your body. Focus on each chakra and sense how it feels. Does the energy flow freely, or does it feel blocked, dense, or dark? Breathe into any area that feels stuck and explore the deeper meaning associated with that chakra. As awareness grows, life begins to feel more guided and harmonious. Ultimately, this practice helps us live from our essence – bringing clarity, compassion, and light into how we live, love, and contribute to the world.

There are many free guided chakra meditations on YouTube and similar platforms, as well as a wealth of information online to help you connect with and align your chakras. You can also engage through sensory experiences: attune visually by working with the colours of the chakras (for instance, the throat chakra is blue), connect with their mantras or sounds if you are more auditory, or use mudras – specific hand positions, rooted in eastern spirituality – for a physical connection. Simply focusing on each chakra like I mentioned above and visualizing the energy flowing through it can be deeply effective. Practices like yoga, dance, or any kind of mindful movement also help energy flow more freely.
Thank you, Lara, for sharing your insights. I know there is so much depth to the Chakras, and you summarized and explained this so easily and well. Your words remind us that energy healing is not something abstract, but a way of reconnecting with who we are and remembering that balance, vitality, and wisdom are already within us.
Vortex Cards of the month
RAINBOW CARD (HARMONY)

Lara’s favourite magnetic vortex card is the Rainbow Card. The rainbow has long been a symbol of hope and embodies the full spectrum of colours and frequencies of light. In Life Alignment, the Rainbow Card represents harmony, structure and wholeness, incorporating the four elements and ether energy. It is designed to balance an entire structure – a space, building such as home and office or even a whole land. Similar to the Fire Card, it emits a transforming frequency that neutralises the negative effects of electromagnetic radiation, geopathic stress, and imbalanced Feng Shui energies, converting them into light energy aligned with the human biofield.
